New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, New Jersey is the only full D-1 athletic program in the country that is totally independent. No league wants them at present, mainly because their basketball arena is horrible, below high school level. That is changing, as yesterday the school announced a new campus athletic facility, to be finished by 2017, at a cost of $100 million. Of course, NJIT is best known for their huge upset in men's basketball this past December at 17th ranked Michigan. With yesterday's announcement, some conferences might be calling soon.
